Content
The lecture “Visualization” deals with the visual representation of data and the interactive communication of data-based content. Interactive visualization enables both the explorative analysis of complex data sets and the effective communication of analysis results, for example in reports, presentations or web-based applications.
The lecture teaches the basics of visualization. This includes central concepts from the areas of the visualization process, interaction, human perception, colour spaces, data types and data structures as well as techniques for transforming, processing and displaying data. Different forms of data such as 2D, 3D and multivariate data, time-related and spatial data as well as networks and graphs are covered.
In addition, basic methods, practical examples and current research topics are presented. A particular focus is on visualization in the context of artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs), for example in the creation of dashboards.
The course thus provides a comprehensive understanding of modern visualization techniques - from the theoretical basics to current applications in the fields of data science and AI.
